One of the worst things about tariffs is that they are a tax on poor and working people. These are are the base of the consumer economy. The upper middle class and certainly the wealthy parts of the population spend most of their money on investments. Investments are fine when they are needed, but when everyone is selling or renting and nobody is buying you have economic problems.
