Yeah they are from the 50's. human psychology doesn't change.

Social media does amplify it.

Like today.

Bonefish finds out that Goose likes gold, Bonefish also likes gold. So that makes Goose ok and part of a group Bonefish likes.

Goose tells Bonefish that he called Goose an idiot.

This immediately causes cognitive dissonance in Bonefish.

Because if Goose is an idiot and likes gold, that means Bonefish who likes gold has to be an idiot also.

These are the two conflicting truths that Bonefish must rationalize away to relieve that cognitive dissonance.

He does that by saying he didn't call Goose an idiot.

Never happened.
