There's the problem.

A manufacturing job in the USA in a segment where the end product which is being made commands perhaps a 15% gross margin (PCs, cell phones, toys, anything mass market) cannot be "well paying", because there is not enough profit in manufacturing to pay employees well. Manufacturing employees are an expense, and the goal of a factory is to reduce expenses while maintaining high quality and high volume.
