X the Unknown,

Some things I forgot to bring up with regard to fish as care-free, cheap pets: Fish people of my acquaintance were forever fussing and messing with their aquariums, keeping the pH just so, the temperature just so, and a bunch of other esoteric stuff just so. These people made frequent excursions to the local pet store to buy fake ferns, fake rocks, GI Joe dolls, and what have you to grace these aquariums. running up bills for these goodies that surely equaled some of those sent to Marine World Africa USA. Some got so deep into this fish thing that their very lives centered around the fish's health and well being. Others even built backyard ponds for their more exotic specimens as the grew too large for their previous indoor habitat. One veterinarian literally smacked his lips when telling me of the fish he had treated long term for one bizarre disease or another. I could go on, but . . . well, I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.
