My relatively uninformed idea is that gold in the ground is better value than gold in a bunker at present, given the price of oil vs that of gold and the price The oil can be run through heavy equipment that can dig and grind rock to extract gold = oil in transmuted form. Direct conversion of mercury, lead or a couple of irons to gold is still too difficult. Oil to gold remains doable.

Maybe photovoltaics hooked up to my quantum physics lead/mercury/platinum/gold conversion system will supersede all.
