re <<But how can China afford all of these beautiful fighter planes when they build stuff like this?>>
... because Chinese peasants are good at building and flying planes, the first accidental, and the second coincidental, and
note that the planes skins are smooth as silk, not even showing dis-connectives between moving and stationary surfaces per ancient, as in 3-grand years of silk know-how borne of 7-grand years of continuous and recorded history, and
yes, the control of the planes without tails are next-level, and manoeuvrability, especially for a plane not exactly needing such, quite inspiring
am thinking the plane shall face no counters on the ocean and in the sky, and whatever the opponents shot out of the sky and sunk into the ocean long before they become a threat, especially when the J36 / J50 are accompanied by fearless UAV companions, and backed up by other goodies
China can afford such because they are inexpensive, and they are good marketing for the lesser planes that be J-20s, J-20Ss and the J-35s, and all are good leads to the next-next generation and absolutely fearless MD-22s
