re: That probably doesn't reflect the true casualty ratio. The Russians are advancing and can probably recover most of their own. The Uke's are retreating and probably forced to leave many bodies behind.
Yes, that is the argument and it does make sense. Which is why no one on pro-Russian side claims the overall ratio is 20:1.
I have seen all sorts of numbers from the Russian side, ranging from 2:1 to 7:1, I have not encountered a single overall estimate of 20:1. IMO, the reality is somewhere in this 2:1 to 7:1 range.
But if you listening to Ukrainian side, the ratio is flipped, which means their minds are in the Lala land...
But, there is a constraint on their thinking. If they were to admit that Ukraine is losing badly (in this attrition war), it would mean the war is futile, people are being sent to die for a lost cause, some humanity would intervene, to say that perhaps it is not a good idea send more people to die for a lost cause.
The only conclusion from that is that it needs to stop, Ukraine needs to sue for peace (and should have done so 3 years ago)
I don't think anyone on the Ukrainian side is ready to admit they were this dumb all along... They have less problem in sending 100k more people to their deaths than admit they were this dumb all along... |
