Little off topic.
Some years ago I spent considerable time in Edmonton, working on an oil and gas project with a design contractor. Very enjoyable. Took a side trip over to the Fort Saint John area to look at a gas turbine installation. Really nice country.
Have also done some work with tech firms in the Hamilton Ontario area. Again most enjoyable. Was an honor to drive down Tesla Boulevard. The Golden Horse Shoe area, very nice country.
Have flown over a lot of Canada many times, including many flights to Europe out of Chicago or Dallas. Lot of vast open country. Also a lot of flights from Minneapolis to Fairbanks, several with clear weather.
This book infatuated me when I was a kid. Probably influenced my choice of habitat later on in life. Probably read it five times.

Read another book a couple of times about a woman who lived in the bush with her hubby, probably in the mountains west of Calgary. Her husband went out to tend his traplines and never returned. She was as I recall pregnant and had one small child. Winter was setting in. She survived, but it must have been tough. She eventually moved to Calgary, was in the depression era. Can't recall the name of the book, it was a true story. And we think we have it rough today.
Between ... I wish there was no border between our countries. Serves little purpose for me. Canada was always one place I could travel, and not be pinpointed as being 'An American'.
Have never driven from where I live to the L48, more or less on my bucket list to do that. Would like to visit Dawson City, maybe go fishing in Great Bear Lake.
