In Memory of Marie Polizzi Holweger (mph)
December 31, 1954 — April 24, 2011
Fourteen years ago today, we on Silicon Investor lost a valued friend when Marie P. Holweger, aka mph, lost her battle with ALS. Marie was a long-time member of SI, having joined on June 27, 1997. She had the distinction, of being followed by 72 others and having no ignores and no bans. Her bookmarked threads included stock trading, as well as other esoteric topics such as Short Stories, Got a Great Recipe to Share?, and Things That Annoy Me, where she made some 379 posts. She was an active participant on Lindy Bill’s Politics for Pros – Moderated thread, with 4,135 posts to her credit.
MPH was a regular poster on the Dorsey Wright Point & Figure thread as well as the Piffer OT and More thread. Her husband joined SI and went by the alias Mr. Lucky. It was said that he had that name because he was so lucky to have met and married Marie.
Marie was a partner with the Los Angeles law firm Child & Marton. She was an accomplished trial attorney, who represented clients in employment cases including sexual harassment, wrongful termination and disability discrimination. She told me more than once that she hoped one day to be a judge. Sometime around 2005, I had an opportunity to refer a client to her, and we talked often on the telephone about the case.
MPH and Mr. Lucky attended one and possibly more SI gatherings in Las Vegas. Unfortunately I didn’t make these gatherings and never did meet her in 3D. Other SI regulars who did have the good fortune to meet mph included Smoothsail (RIP), Jorj X. McKie, Augustus Gloop, Lost1, Oral (RIP) and his wife Kristi, Rudi, Carolyn, Sarki, Mulholland Drive, arno (RIP) and August West, and possibly more. Reports were that all had a great time, and much golf was played.
Marie was many things. She was an accomplished lawyer and a tenacious litigator. She was kind, thoughtful, and generous with her time and knowledge. She also had a great sense of humor. She was a huge asset to the SI community and is missed by all who knew her.
