Well! I must say I feel insulted! <G>
It looks like I've been pulled into another "size matters" argument..***sigh***<VBG>
Let me explain: My pilot has 2 Meg of RAM, and 2 Meg of ROM...that's FLASH ROM...can load apps into it, not taking valuable bat. power (It's nice being able to heavily use the pilot for weeks (often over a month) at a time on one set of AAA batteries. Unlike it's big cousin WIN CE beasts that use heavy AAs for a few days/hours at a time....and thats without the PCMCIA card modem that lasts about 30 minutes.)

There are commercial cards available for PalmPilot giving up to 5 Meg if you like, not to mention every program you can think of. But the Motorolla Dragon Ball CPU can address 32bits worth of Memory....that's alot more than your average quad-cpu intel 333 MHZ servers....but it really is'nt needed, so why load it up with fat?

But the CE devices now have around 16MB RAM
Yes, that can be done, but they cost bucks. Typically you get about 2-4 meg depending on the flavor.
& 12MB ROM.
WIN CE is indeed a pig...I'm supprised they did'nt just put a disk on the device...heck the CE devices are too big to fit in a shirt pocket, whats another couple of ounces? And the CE computers are bulky even in a coat pocket....hardly what I consider a PDA. I've got a lap top for that (64Meg, thankyou very much <G>). |
