IonQ plans to build first U.S. quantum computing hub in Tennessee

IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) plans to build a $22M quantum computing and networking hub in Chattanooga, Tenn., which will be the first of its kind in the U.S., the Maryland-based company announced today.
IonQ is working with the EPB of Chattanooga, a power and telecommunication company, to develop the EPB Quantum Center, which will house IonQ's Forte Enterprise quantum computer. It will provide quantum computing, networking and application development and support. The Forte Enterprise is IonQ's most powerful quantum computer.
"By establishing Chattanooga as the first U.S. hub for quantum computing and networking, we stand ready to work with companies and researchers across the nation to accelerate the development of real-world applications for quantum technology," said EPB CEO David Wade.
IonQ also has quantum computers located in Switzerland, New York, Maryland and Washington state.
IonQ shares edged up 1.6% by noon trading on Friday. Shares for the company surged 250% over the past 12 months, but have declined 31% year to date. Other quantum stocks were mixed during Friday trading, with Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ: RGTI) and D-Wave Quantum both down 1%. Quantum Computing (NASDAQ: QUBT) inched up 0.4%. |
