The deficit is going to rise under the Trump Administration because the vast majority of spending comes from three areas: Healthcare, Social Security and Defense and the Trump administration has vowed not to cut SS benefits or Medicare. And defense spending is not going to be cut. I don't see how the DOGE cuts will compensate for the tax cuts.

To be sure, there is a Medicaid component to healthcare costs and it remains to be seen what may be cut there. The Obama administration did cut Medicare spending so it also remains to be seen what may be cut there too.

In short: reducing the deficit substantially would involve making cuts to healthcare costs, social security and Defense and not initiating tax cuts. Otherwise, the deficit will increase in spite of the DOGE cuts.
