House Democrat Says It’s ‘Batsh*t Crazy’ That He Has to Introduce Amendment to Prevent Citizen Deportations
Charlie NashApr 30th, 2025, 8:02 pm

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) said it was “batshit crazy” that Democrats felt “the need to even introduce an amendment that says ICE cannot deport U.S. citizens,” on Wednesday, after President Donald Trump floated the possibility of sending American prisoners to El Salvador.

“The fact that Democrats and my colleague Representative Pramila Jayapal feel the need to even introduce an amendment that says ICE cannot deport U.S. citizens is batshit crazy,” said Lieu on the House floor. “This should not even be a discussion. It is not even a question. U.S. citizens cannot be deported by ICE. It’s the law, it’s the Constitution. I will be astounded if Republicans vote no on this.”

Introducing her amendment, Jayapal said, “My amendment is simple, and I hope that it has bipartisan support. It simply states that none of the funds in this bill may be used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain or deport U.S. citizens. Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, I hope we can all agree that U.S. citizens should never be detained by ICE or any agency conducting civil immigration enforcement. They certainly should not be deported.”

Trump floated the possibility of sending violent American criminals to El Salvador this month after the Trump administration successfully deported illegal aliens with gang ties to El Salvador’s CECOT prison.

“If he would take them, I would be honored to give them,” said Trump, referring to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele. “I don’t know what the law says on that, but I can’t imagine the law would say anything different. If they can house these horrible criminals for a lot less money than it costs us, I’m all for it, but I would only do so according to the law.”

This week, Jayapal also protested the “illegal, immoral, and unconstitutional” reported deportation of a two-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras.

On Sunday, InfoWars founder Alex Jones warned Trump against deporting U.S. citizens, calling the idea “unconstitutional” and “really bad.”
