Hopefully, we'll know more about LGD's hybrid tandem panels from SID because management was their normal useless selves last night.

Fundamentally, a tandem hybrid architecture allows you to commercialize a phosphorescent blue without hitting commercial specs for the material itself. It's a crutch.

and most definitely not what they originally promised.

Here's their statement from the May 2022 call.

With respect to blue, we continue to make excellent progress in our ongoing development work for a commercial phosphorescent blue emissive system. We believe that we are on track to meet preliminary target specs with our phosphorescent blue by year-end, which should enable the introduction of our all-phosphorescent RGB stack into the commercial market in 2024. We believe that the commercial introduction of our full color emissive stack will unlock a vast array of opportunities for higher energy efficiency and higher performance across a broad range of OLED applications.
They used identical language about introducing an all phosphorescent RGB stack in every single call until the end of 2023 where they dropped reference to the RGB stack. They then started talking about a commercial phosphorescent blue system.

likely because they knew they had no chance of developing an all phosphorescent RGB stack that could be commercialized.

It is possible that a hybrid tandem structure could develop material revenues if it is adopted by Apple. That likely requires that the color gamut, lifetime, and picture quality to be similar to a standard hybrid architecture. Maybe SID will answer those questions.
