Off Topic Discussion: (Continued)

Like most mathematicians, I am in large part a Platonic Realist: i.e., I believe mathematical objects such as square root of two and a circle of radius one exist in a real world. However, the resolution of an old problem due to Cantor casts doubt on this enterprise, the Continuum Hypothesis. Recall the Real Numbers have a higher order of infinity (cardinality aleph one) than the Rational Numbers (cardinality aleph zero). Cantor's Continuum Hypothesis (which reportedly drove him crazy) stated that there is no set X with infinity size (cardinality) between the two, i.e., aleph zero < cardinality(X) < aleph one. It turns out that within the axioms of modern set theory underlying modern mathematics the Continuum Hypothesis can be either True or False - it is Undecidable! See seven minute video below.
