Size is a big give away that the snake prefers to "hug" you than "kiss" you. The most venomous creatures are typically in water because the environment dilutes the potency of the poison.

This story reminds me of a nature show i watched many years ago. The snake handler/specialist had also been bitten by snakes many times and had started "self-vaccinating" himself with venoms. I don't think this is the guy. I think that guy had a snake farm or something like that. But it goes to show that the behavior isn't unique within a small circle.
