Intel Investors - Intel may introduce CHip Sets for Network Switches this week.

What this implies may be that Intel-based servers will also perform the function of Network Switches - eliminating the need for external network switches and/or routers.

This could liven up the networking business!

MORE THAN JUST PENTIUMS -- Intel has been quietly
expanding its presence in the networking arena for the past
several months, but is finally getting ready to spill the beans.
The company has planned a major briefing session next week,
and a spokesman said they would discuss the company's new
focus on networking products. A hint: there's more to silicon
than just Pentiums. Expect to see Intel pushing its own family
of switching chipsets to OEMs, to make it easier for the
computer companies to ship network- ready machines to
businesses. Another hint: don't expect to see network interface
cards (NICs) getting plugged into those boxes once Intel starts
selling networking chipsets to the OEMs.
