probably a big deal

marketwatch.com

back in the day I got myself invited to a lot of tech company presentation stuff.... mostly I had no clue, not being a tech brain, but with 500 lbs of tech magazines delivered to my house each week, by osmosis, I got a good handle on the state of, back then it was simply the build out of the internet, and here we are today. layer upon layer upon layer moving up the improvement chain from where it all started via DARPA of all things.

I remember my last cisco conference very clearly. it was breakfast buffet followed by presentation then after mingling. by this point i was familiar (face recognition) with some of the regional sales reps and best I could always chat with them. At this point cisco owned the router market and other basic things.. aka connectivity.

they were not, what they are now.

so I was talking to this guy and he actually asks me, what do you think is going on? I forget the base on which he asked me this.

So, I said: Your job as of today is gonna get a lot harder. Most of the stuff you sell is gonna get commoditized and end up on a peg board at Walmart, as common as toilet paper in the toilet paper isle. Unless you figure out what's going to be uncommon and Cisco exclusive going forward, I'd say, ur days are numbered.

I was so fucking right.
