There is a huge problem in how the rankings are calculated. They take publications into account. We don’t know the quality of these publications. Just don’t trust that Chinese journals are remotely as good as USA journals. Just look at cutting edge tech - do you have any doubts that USA is ahead? I think the problem is us stopping them from buying us stuff. Eventually they could catch up due to desperate need.
