....gradually....sleep seduces him.... Head tilting to an odd angle, he slowly relaxes and loses his grip on the mutilated book... It drops softly to the floor. His eyelids flicker slightly as colours and images swirl upon them in rapid succession... strange grotesque shapes continuously morphing from one, to the next, to the next. Some so strange, so savage, that his body twitches and trembles in their wake.... All at once, he is aroused by the nudging of his dog's muzzle upon the limp fingers of his hand. Awareness returns to him as he smells the acrid scent of burning wool...and glances down in horror to find that the last balled page of "The Republic of Love" has rolled out the fire, igniting the oval braided hearth rug at his feet. Anger wells up within as he seizes the remnants of his coffee and flings it onto the smouldering flame... **well... what more would you expect from a oedipal crocodile anyhow...?...;-}>
