Current description of Glass House portion of the restaurant on its website

Glass House

A modern architectural space with floor to ceiling windows overlooking our interior courtyard and the Kimpton Monaco Hotel. The Glass House features multiple dynamic seating areas, sculptural artwork and a full-service bar. Windows may be dimmed for an even more intimate experience. From milestone events to vibrant weddings, this unique space can adapt to your unique needs.

Project by Stanton Architect

The remodel and expansion of the courtyard of the Monaco Hotel located in Washington, D.C. was completed in late 2016. The building that houses the hotel and the restaurant is the Old General Post Office, also known as the Tariff Building, a National Landmark dating to the 1820’s.

The project expanded the restaurant to a 1,400 square feet glass pavilion enclosed with dynamic glass. The dynamic glass automatically changes tint in response to the light conditions at any given time. The 200-seat restaurant space features heated outdoor seating, four bars and six firepits.

Given the fact that EC glass can only last for 10-20 years, it may be has a shorter life at this restuarant if the windows are cycling throughout the day.

My guess is that Gauzy may have landed this especially since its AIA exhibit in D.C last June. Stanton was probably there and that may have led to a retrofit.

P.S. Highlighted "Tariff Building" for laughs
