I had the exact same issue when I was in school and initially so did my kids. Thankfully I could give my kids what my parents did not/could not give me. I sent them in gifted science and technology program and International Baccalaureate. The point is, make him join programs that he will have no free time. Whether it is sports or academia, the saddest thing is wasted talent.
