The psychology of shorting is such that when one nails a very large win ... after positioning correctly shortly before something dives ... can give the winner the impression that the "winner" has a "line" on something others don't. The result is to forget that being short is only rarely a greatly profitable endeavor and to try again too soon as if it isn't that true.

The psychology of being long something undervalued for an extended period is different ... but shares this with the short who thinks he has a "line" on something ... one has to have some fortitude to be at odds with what the tape is saying currently.

I think this is why most successful traders lean to trading around well established trends or setups.
It's just easier.

Large gains await those who can nail a long or a short contrary to the market ... but the liklihood of winning isn't great.
