An eruption of the super-volcano at Yellowstone would wipe out probably half of the US population as well as most North American living creatures, plants, and animals.

That eruption is over-due.

The planet and solar system do a good job of wiping the slate clean on earth and starting over every few hundred million years. It's kind of like shaking an Etch-a-Sketch and wiping it clean, only it's us that are getting wiped.
