Richard,

March issue of Money Mag had an article on investing in gold "Is This A Golden Opportunity?" Concluded that there could be a "short term" spike in gold prices as opposed to a long bull market and investors could take advantage of it through mutual funds or select stocks.

Recommended mutual funds are Vanguard Specialized Portfolios-Gold & Precious Metals, and American Century Global Gold Fund., both of which focus on large North American mining companies.

Recommended companies that would benefit most from an increase in gold prices are: Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM), a medium size low cost producer; Battle Mountain Gold (BMG), Newmont Mining (NEM) and Barrick Gold (ABX).

Since Money has a very large readership, it might be worthwhile keeping an eye on these companies and funds if there is a surge in gold prices.
