With trouble in the Middle East waning, oil, already pressured by El Ni¤o's warming effects, continues its slide. Metals will no doubt languish a bit here. However, I foresee further Presidential problems and the possibility of neither Clinton or Gore finishing the year in office. That should stir up the waters a little bit. Question: If the SS trust fund (which will be insolvent in 15 years) is running a $100B surplus, and this surplus is put into bonds (i.e. the general fund) thus giving us a $10B net surplus for the year, isn't it silly to say that we need to use that surplus to "shore up Social Security"?
