Yes, that’s exactly why both parties contribute to deficit increases. The Republicans cut taxes without spending cuts, the democrats increase spending without increasing taxes. As the parties try to hold on to the big chair, all policies are necessarily intermediate term until the next election. Federal spending did not increase for decades since the Reagan administration, yet now federal employees are scapegoats for this policy. The big ticket items are healthcare (Medicaid and Medicare for seniors and disabled) and interest on debt because rates have been raised so high. Interest is now higher than entire DOD spending. The main issue is that USA can’t afford another financial crisis because it puts a big dent in the government finances, which are already screwed. That is not to say a financial crisis can’t happen.
