She had parked her car on a hill near her apartment after a surfing excursion. When the fires hit the Pacific Palisades, she escaped with her dog in her primary vehicle, leaving “Azul”, as she had named the bus, to its fate. A few days after the fire, a neighbor sent her the iconic picture that the Associated Press had showing the mini bus intact among the charred wreckage.
