If push comes to shove, the auto makers will just switch back to induction motors.

Tesla originally used a induction motor, that's why they named the car Tesla because the induction motor was his invention.

Induction motors are 2 to 10 percent less efficient depending on load than permanent magnet motors, because of the energy needed to flash a magnetic field.

Auto makers switched to permanent magnet motors in the quest for more range.
