I have made no secret of my strategy after hitting 80. I started being ultra conservative, buying nothing but CDs and very highly rated bonds. I started buying 4 year CDs and have started shortening the duration of new CD buys so when I am 84 everything will mature. I am not worrying about keeping up with inflation or tax consequences, it is now preservation of capital and a solid income stream. Not knowing how many years a person has left and not wanting to leave a complicated mess when you go changes perspective. I still am holding thirty or forty preferreds and ETD, but buying no more. Simplification is the key for me now.
