I've been following CIEN's stock price for about 9 months and started reading this thread since its Thursday night massacre; I've found it to be one of the best on SI. Some of you get a bit testy when basic questions are asked, so I'll beg your indulgence and present what might be some pretty stupid issues:

1) Is CIEN's product essentially the fiber optic counterpart to that of PAIR and ADTN?

2)About how large is the potential marketplace for DVDM? The reliance on a relatively small number of customers is obviously a concern for investors. Is it likely the possible customer base will grow in the future?

3)Is there an upper limit to the number of channels into which a fiber can be split?

4)Does scalability mean that a customer can buy a 16 channel product now and upgrade it later without major difficulty?

5)How long does it take to install a system once it's been purchased? and finally,

6)Can DVDM products from different suppliers be easily combined?

Again, my apologies if these questions reflect a hopeless degree of ignorance, but I am very challenged technologically, and I would have no idea how to go about researching these issues.

Thanks.
