What has always amazed me is that a telescope can be thought of as a time machine of sorts. When you are looking at the universe, such as in this site or from a telescope, you are not seeing other galaxies, stars, or planets. You are seeing how they were thousands or even millions of years ago. With enough technological progress, some day we may witness dinosaurs on other planets, though they may have been been dead for millions of years.
