No one ever lost money taking a profit

Well, many have lost future profits by taking a profit. I sold Apple at about $60 in about 2002/3. Lost lots of future profits due to that sale, probably lost 200x the profit (maybe more!) that I made taking profit on my Apple trade.

When you take a profit, you usually invest the proceeds into something else. Whether that something else does better than the stock you sold to take the profit is the deterimant in whether the profit taking was wise, or not.
