Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) on Tuesday announced a multi-year partnership with Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) for the tech giant’s next-generation Xbox consoles.
Microsoft, in a statement said, the partnership will include both firms to “co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices,” including the next-generation Xbox consoles.
Xbox president Sarah Bond also pointed out that its next-gen Xbox platform will be focused on multiple devices and not locked to its own store for games.
“This is all about building a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want across devices anywhere you want — delivering you an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device,” Bond said in a minute-long YouTube video, adding that all will be done while maintaining compatibility with the existing library of Xbox games.
However, Bond’s comments did not mention any release date for the next-gen consoles. She only said that “the next generation of Xbox is coming to life, and this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.” |
