Scrublands S02

I remember when I reviewed Season 1 of this show, I liked a lot about it, but felt the lead actor lacked the range to fully realize his part. Well, I just finished Season 2 and have reached just about the same conclusion, but again I feel the show is strong enough overall to overcome that weakness.

If I was Martin, that central figure, I would not have returned to my isolated home town Silver, but then there would have been no series. Martin had originally left town as a budding journalist teenager after writing a story that upset some dangerous people. In the first series he returned to write a story about the local priest gunning down a bunch of locals, but the story turned out to be very convoluted and pusheed Martin to his limits.

In the second series he has returned to Silver with a new partner and a baby, supposedly for a vacation, but quickly his best friend is dead and that partner is arrested for the crime. As he digs further, he reveals more and more ugly secrets, including some about his own past.

The story is interesting, the soundtrack and cinematography are excellent, and the rest of the acting is excellent, so I can still recommend that you track down both seasons of Scrublands.
