Today, a significant number of high school students are unable to perform simple math calculations such as 12X2, 13-5, or 42÷6 in their heads. Even when provided with a calculator they struggle to input the data correctly. It is astonishing, I often volunteer at a local "A+ rated" high school and I am shocked at how deteriorated the education system has become. Sleeping in class without repercussions is so common, and attending class only two days a week is very prevalent. Everything is given to all students, school supplies breakfast and lunch for everyone. Teachers are generally handcuffed from disciplining students. Students no longer read in class they just watch youtube videos where a book they are suppose to be reading is read to them. No one takes notes because notes are given to them and they are told these notes is what will be on the upcoming test. Removal of Cell Phones is the first step but many parents object to this. Because they like to text their children in class to see how thy are doing that day. AI just compounds the problems. Students take a photo of the test and Chatgpt provides all of the answeer right in the classroom
