So, what are you backing up on? Floppies? Almost every machine in our department has had to get their floppy drive replaced, and the disks go bad with regularity. A server? Well, the HD isn't good forever. They've got to back up to something, if they're smart. Nothing? Well...

CD-R, CD-RW? They should hold the data longer, but they're as expensive as a Jaz.

etc., etc., etc.

BTW, did anybody read the article in US News & World Report a couple of weeks ago on computer data archiving. According to them, nothing (not even CD's) will reliably hold digital data more than a couple of decades, except paper.
