Donald Trump struggled to give a straight answer when questioned about his prior commitment to ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

The president spoke during a press conference at the NATO summit in The Hague today. He was questioned by a reporter about his prior comments that he would end the war between the two countries within 24 hours of taking office. The president repeated the comments numerous times throughout his campaign.

The president, who has since changed his tone, faced off against a reporter who asked, “You've now been in office for five months and five days, why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?” It comes as new dementia fears were raised about Donald Trump after viewers spotted a mysterious clue in his suit.

Trump responded that his comment was “of course sarcastic,” before explaining that ending the war between the two countries is “more difficult than anyone would have any idea.”

“Vladimir Putin has been more difficult… Frankly, I had some problems with Zelensky.”

Trump met with Zelensky this afternoon, engaging in a 50 minute sidebar, according to the AP. Trump said the meeting went well, and that Zelensky “couldn’t have been nicer.”

However, he confirmed that he had not come to any resolution regarding a ceasefire. The Russia-Ukraine war has taken a back seat in Trump’s agenda since things escalated between Israel and Iran.

“It’s been more difficult than other wars,” Trump said about Russia and Ukraine. “Look, we just ended a war in 12 days that was simmering for 30 years frankly.”

Trump listed a number of global conflicts he believes the US has successfully ended since he took office, citing Rwanda and the Congo as well as India and Pakistan.

Speaking about the war and his meeting with Zelensky, Trump said: "I think it's a great time to end it. I’m going to speak to Vladimir Putin and see if we can get it ended... He’s [Zelensky] fighting a brave battle, it’s a tough battle."

Zelensky also shared that he had sat down with Trump today in The Netherlands. He wrote on X: "I had a long and substantive meeting with President Trump @POTUS. We covered all the truly important issues. I thank Mr. President, I thank the United States. We discussed how to achieve a ceasefire and a real peace."

"We spoke about how to protect our people. We appreciate the attention and the readiness to help bring peace closer. Details will follow."
