I can only see closing the Strait as a last suicidal desperation act. It would be economic suicide for Iran, not to mention pissing off China, India, and most of the rest of Asia. Also angered would be Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE.

The ships that changed course, the owners ran the numbers, as some of their insurers jacked up rates.
