I think Amati and DMT could get to first base on their own without Alcatel. DMT has been validated and has some definite advantages in performance but has some problems too. The link that Techie gave on the Westell thread indicates that "Alcatel's ADSL solution offers both speed and power adaptations, another combination unique to the industry". Which I believe is better than any other DMT available. Amati's is rate adaptive but I don't think it is power adaptive. I see Alcatel as the competition not the friend Amati wants to help to validate DMT. Alcatel is the big bad wolf in sheep's clothing, IMO. :)
