Suresh reposted this on 400g per lane, LWLG not looking good!

Looks like Polymers will have a lot of work to do for the next iterations of 400g per lane

Thanks for posting this SP. The topic of Lightwave Logics polymer being a viable solution has merited some discussions with POET's principals for a number of years. Many of us looked upon LWLG electro optic polymer tech as both a potential competitor or as a technology which could be integrated with the POET platform. Those discussions have long since passed. But those past discussions have always revolved around lifetime and temperature limitations not just in the processing but also in the operation. Suffice to say that thermal stress testing would definitely require close scrutiny.

I will share one of the last conversations that I had on the subject. It is 6 months old. I will take the liberty to share an additional tid bit which brings POET to the current state of readiness.

Re POET: The questions from customers are now all about production capacity.

Re LWLG: Too bad about LWLG, but when you start promoting polymer as a “platform” it’s a sign you’ve entered la la land.

My conclusion:

I expect the next material set we hear about from POET will be TFLN. Suresh is not focused on unproven technologies. He continually prepares for the next breakthrough in materials that he sees as reaching a level of maturity to warrant POETs platform development. And I would say that suppliers who are looking to POET as a platform that can integrate their technology are very aware of what milestones must be achieved to warrant a look from Suresh.
