Yes, I still know him. He’s one of those long-time acquaintances I can never seem to shake. Covid changed everything, I found it was a lot easier to keep nutcases at arm’s length. I asked him once why he got two Covid shots, and he looked at me surprised and said, “It’s free.”
I’ve learned a few key phrases to disarm nutcases. When they start ranting and raving about global warming, I just reply, “How do you know?” When my sister goes off about Trump, I say, “I like Trump.” Unfortunately, that also hits her reset button. One time, my niece was listening to us and said, “Yeah, Mom, I like Trump too.” She pulled out a chair, plopped down and sighed, "Where did I go wrong...?" |
