The main conclusion I draw is that there will not be a recession until the year 2000 begins ... My guess is that the fear will start to escalate right after the September 1999 earnings are published.

There has probably never been a more predictable recession. Therefore, I expect the market and economy to react well ahead of the actual event. Given the huge increase in mainstream press coverage of late, I'm amazed that the market is back to record heights. Timing the start of the panic is impossible, but IMHO, waiting until 8/99 is a huge gamble. If everyone plans to sell their stocks and stash their cash, but waits until the last minute, they'll never get the chance. The slightest trickle could turn into a deluge in a few hours or days.
