Bonefish, how did Brazil attract Chinese investment? How did they convince China to build a BYD plant in Brazil?

Did they do it by waging a trade war of choice? No, they did it by improving trade relations.

Sure, they impose tariffs on goods flowing each way, but these tariffs for the most part are for revenue and are most likely set in a way that helps maintain a healthy balance. Brazil in particular has a trade surplus with China since Brazil provides a lot of raw materials, petroleum, and agricultural products that China really loves. Meanwhile China gets to export manufactured goods such as machinery, electronics, motorized vehicles, and chemicals.

This is how a healthy trade relationship works. Not "OMG I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU DID TO BOLSONARO HERE'S A 50% TARIFF JUST BECAUSE I FELT LIKE IT!"

And thanks to Trump, at least three of the BRICS countries are going to more closely improve their trade relations.

That's soft power. That's how you succeed in a globalized economy.

The alternative? Cater to dumbass MAGA nimwits who think everything can be reshored just through the sheer force of a narcissist.
