This is their routine when they want out of an area. Happened to us about 6-7 years ago with State Farm. Doubled our insurance after we had a big hail storm, with some baseball sized hail. They acted like they expected to just take our money for 50 years without a claim instead of just 30.

The month after they paid us, they cancelled us. I called my agent and said, "WTF?"

His words to me: "They've decided they don't want to be in this area anymore. You're going to need to find someone else or pay the high rates."

So, we found someone else but I wasn't about to leave my other insurance with them.

It is their right, of course, but customers feel a little screwed over, even though they the paid the claims, because it feels like they dish out the bill but then complain about having to pay off. A friend, who owns a house outside St. Louis, had a claim for 15K earlier this year, and they did the same with her. Hers was over water damage.
