What really bothers me about press coverage of disasters, like hurricanes, is how they focus on 2-3 locations that took a big hit, usually because they’re right on or near the coast, where wind and surge cause massive destruction. But what do you expect when you live on a narrow, low-lying strip of land that’s essentially a barrier? It seems so obvious. If you are inland a few miles the damage is usually marginal When I lived in the Seattle area, I bought a house at the top of a hill, so that any rain would flow down into the neighbors' driveways, causing flooding, which isn’t even that common there. I find it interesting on how N.Carolina is becoming a weather danger zone.
