There is no asteroid mining at this time. But, there is a surprising amount of activity in this direction. It may probably become increasingly practical to try. I imagine, at some point it may become economically feasible.

Also, we have plenty of unexplored possibilities right here, on our planet - deeper in the Earth’s core, the bottoms of the oceans… Unexplored, hard to get to regions. Robotics could make this possible. The result would be the same - it would make it problematic to use Gold as a store of value.
