Tenchu's Thoughts - Epstein and the Cheap Christianity of MAGA

The Epstein list is bringing out the worst of MAGA in many ways. But I want to spend a little time focusing on how it has exposed the cheap Christianity of MAGA:

#1 Oh Noes, She Took Off Her Cross Necklace!

Did Karoline Leavitt ditch her cross necklace while talking about Epstein ‘client list’? Netizens speculate (Hindustan Times)

Many MAGA cultists questioned this move, including Buddy Brown, a MAGA YouTube content creator with 1.2M subscribers:

I'm sorry, but there are two things wrong with this mentality.

First of all, if you think the Blonde Iraqi Information Minister was telling the truth when she was wearing her cross necklace, you are severely demented. That cross isn't a magical item that forces its wearer to tell the truth. The devil and his servants WILL dress themselves up as Christians in order to spread their lies, and they WILL wear the cross without spontaneously combusting.

Second, as the article already pointed out, Leavitt has taken off the cross necklace during numerous other occasions. No big deal. I really doubt she stopped identifying as a "Christian" during those times.

And third, wearing the cross is nothing more than the ultimate form of virtue-signaling. MAGA loves to point out how the left is fond of empty virtue-signaling, but they are just as guilty of it. However, their virtue-signaling is arguably worse, given that unlike the oh-so-godless left, they profess that they have to answer to a higher power.

#2 Cheap Forgiveness

Brad T. Faciti on X said the following regarding what he would do if Trump r@ped his daughters ...

That sounds all nice and holy. It also reflects what some of the MAGA cultists on this very thread have claimed: Message 35125960
Pray for TRUMP over condemnation, the bible tells us so.
Now here's the problem. They are willing to "forgive" Trump if he ended up r@ping young girls on Epstein's island of sin. One guy even claimed that he would "forgive" Trump if his own daughters were r@ped by him.

But would they be so quick to forgive an "illegal alien" if he r@ped their daughters?

Of course not. Said "illegal alien" must be rounded up, detained, put into shackles without due process, and rendered to a foreign-run gulag where the rights of inmates don't exist.

But not only should the confirmed criminals be deported, but also the "potential" criminals who haven't yet been caught in the act. They KNOW that most "illegal aliens" are nothing but violent felons and rapists, even if they don't have criminal records. (The fact that they don't have criminal records is the fault of the Democrats anyway, according to them. All those Soros-funded D.A.'s, you know.)

They are quick to judge. They think Trump's brazen police state actions demonstrate "courage." They want these "illegal aliens" all gone gone gone, because they think these immigrants bring nothing but chaos, crime, and depressed wages.

Does THAT sound like a spirit of forgiveness?

And that's where the sin of cheap forgiveness comes into play. Jesus did not die on the cross just so they can wield the power of forgiveness only to their chosen cult leaders. Jesus did not command his followers to only forgive those who are their political allies. Jesus instead commanded his followers to forgive and help those in need, especially the "least of these" ...

Matthew 25:31-46 (NIV)
(44) “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ (45) “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
Conclusion - Cheap Faith, Cheap Words, Cheap Forgiveness

Now it's interesting that, more than every other lie coming out of Trump's firehose of lies, the Epstein list seems to be the one that is causing a fissure in the MAGA cult. I'll talk about that some other time.

But it's really obvious to me that these cheap displays of faith, these cheap words and cheap forgiveness, is doing nothing more than harming the entire church of Jesus Christ.

And for what? To reduce the price of eggs? To reinforce American exceptionalism? To finally rid our society of these "illegal alien invaders" who is no doubt responsible for all of the ills of American society?

Or is this all just to "pwn the libs"?

Whatever it is, whatever the motivation of MAGA, the truth is that they cheapen the Christian faith and render it meaningless.

If they think a cross necklace is some magical truth-telling device, they are fooling themselves.

If they think forgiveness is something that they can do just for their own political allies but not for their political foes, then they are utter hypocrites.

And if THIS is what they mean by returning America back to its "Christian roots," then I want no part of it.

One more thing. Jesus' forgiveness is free, but it is NOT CHEAP. Anyone who treats it like some cheap trinket from a souvenir shop is sinning. Period.
