NozRydr -- I would put a slightly different slant on a possible alignment between Apple and the administration effort to increase domestic production of rare earths. First of all, it takes probably at least three years to bring new mining and metallurgy technology to something greater than pilot production. In the meantime, the U.S. will have to depend on imports other than the ore itself from China. Second, when a company, or for that matter a government agency invests in new technology, without either knowledge or experience in the technology, it usually turns out unsuccessful, or more expensive than anticipated. That's a valid conclusion, no matter what countries or companies are involved.

In other words, before venturing into unknown territory, fix what's in your own back yard.
