You and your hero worship. Dyson was a brilliant individual. But he was far from omniscient. Like with anyone, the further he got from his field(s) of expertise...
Yes, Dyson was a great man. And sure, he's kind of a hero, although I never thought of it that way.

But his entire discussion of the subject centered around the fact that we simply don't yet know the significance of it, and what the best directions for dealing with it might be. He had a great understanding of computer modeling as he was there when the precepts were established. And what he knew was that such models cannot begin to do justice to complexities of the issue.

In the last five years, models have gotten bigger and incorporated new kinds of interactions, as one would expect. So, progress is surely being made (lots of resources have been committed to finer resolutions, which long-term will be a good thing).

But the fundamental problem outlined by Dyson is still present: Keep gathering knowledge and working on it until you fully comprehend the problem and its solutions. So you react correctly, not merely throwing darts at a dartboard.

It kills you guys that the true, legitimate thought leader on this subject continues to Elon Musk.

It is hilarious to watch the left scramble as Musk gets off his ass and solves problems while the rest of the world does nothing.
